Baby Boy's Birthday

Remember I told you that last month was crazy? Well, it was because I had plans week after week.

First monday of the month, I flew to Davao to celebrate my nephew's first birthday. It was minion-inspired so my sisters and I, crazy as we are, planned to wear jumpers to the party. It's obviously a kiddie party with a lot of kids but the three of us acted the most childish that night. I guess some people just don't know how to grow up. haha.

I didn't watch Despicable Me 1 because I didn't even like their trailer. I watched the sequel because I had to wait for hours for my dad but I just sat at the cinema, wishing it to end. I don't really find it funny (or whatever it should be) so I didn't bother watching the Minion Movie.

Anyway, that doesn't matter because my nephew's eyes light up when he sees those minions or hears ba-ba-ba-baba-nana. That one I like by the way, the song. So he was super happy during his party because there were minions everywhere - the cake, the cupcakes, the standees, the goodies, even on his forehead and shoes!

He still had long hair during his party but after his haircut, he already looks so grown up! I can already imagine him rocking the Nolan Ross look. He's our first baby boy and I can't wait to dress him up!!

Anyway, I flew back to Manila Thursday that week for school. Yes, just to attend my classes on Friday and Saturday, because when Sunday came, I was back at the airport boarding a plane back to Davao. You'll know what for on the next post! ;)

Hiking on my 23rd

Hiking. That's what you're gonna read about this time. If you've read my previous posts, you'd know that I have my a list of things to do before, not die, but before I wouldn't be able to do them because I'm terribly sick or of old age or whatever reasons.

A part of that long list is to hike. That was actually ambitious because I never had training or basic knowledge, I just wanna try. That was why I planned to spend my 23rd birthday hiking the Taal Volcano in Tagaytay. One reason is because Tagaytay is a few hours away from Manila and another is that it is known to be a shorter hike which is advisable for beginners like me. haha. I don't think you have to be really skilled to do something. As long as you are really determined to do it and you have the courage do face whatever there is you are not expecting, you're good to go. Oh and I convinced my mom to hike. that's a big deal! :)

So, here goes the adventure.. :))

Mt. Taal is known to be the volcano within a lake so we had to ride the bangka to be at the foot of it.

We were greeted by these horses when we arrived. One could either really hike or ride a horse to the top. My mom and my sister were not so sure about straining themselves and decided to avail of the wonderful horses. haha. :)

One the way up, you'll see amazing views.. :)

view of struggling hikers...

...happy hikers...

... birthday hiker.

At the top, refreshing fresh buko juice awaits..

Pushing our bodies to the limit, we went to the other side and saw the best photo spot.. :)

One of the best, ever! Thank you. Happy Birthday to ME!! :))))

A Birthday Surprise

I'm finally back and I just celebrated my 23rd birthday. :))

All these years, I've never celebrated a birthday without my family.. I thought this year's the first. I am more than 600 miles away from home busying myself with so many things while my parents and family are well, busy as always. I couldn't fly to Davao for my birthday and they couldn't fly here so I planned January 31st with some friends - Ren and Des. At first it was fine, I was fine. However, as my birthday neared, I became depressed and I don't know, just felt weird.

My birthday week came. I was excited to have my friends come over for the weekend but I was still unhappy. Something was really missing. I tried overeating - something I do when I'm depressed - and even tried retail therapy - a more expensive way of trying to make myself happy. But still, I'd arrive home still yearning for something. I didn't have an idea what I really need until a friend told me that I was longing for my family for  my birthday. I realized she was right. I need my family. I was so sad until I got a call from my sister. She was coming over for the weekend with our mom!! What a surprise. Everything became lighter.

It was the 30th. I planned to meet my visitors - four of them - at the airport. I was already with Des, waiting for Ren at the arrival hall when suddenly, someone hugged me from the back. Someone taller with heavy arms. It was my dad! I was so happy that he actually came. He had told me that he was going to a few trips to visit some projects. He flew in from Zamboanga to surprise me.

One of the several things I'm proud about my dad is that he never misses an event in our family - birthdays, graduations, anniversaries. No matter where or how busy he is, he always finds a way.

Most of my family were there with me with my closest friends. I thought this year would be my saddest birthday ever but it didn't turn out that way. It became one of the most memorable birthdays I had. It's just sad that my sister, my brother-in-law, and my ever beloved niece weren't there. It could have been the best by far. Bright side, more potential for better birthdays for the years to come. haha.

One thing we should never forget is that family is very important. We may not realize it but they give us the greatest happiness in life.
